Well, perfection might be a myth but near perfection is not. And trying to reach a conclusion on the topic of a perfect long-distance might seem like a long endless dig. The meaning and importance of a relationship have seen the most numbers of modifications. With the change in time, the process of thinking, conceiving, and accepting have also undergone some major makeovers. And so have the definition of relationship. In this course of time, relationships have managed to gather all kinds of definitions, from a support system to time pass, a source of treating loneliness to a source of forgetting your ex.
But what is a relationship exactly?
Though there is a dictionary meaning of relationship, that does not really fit this generations’ definition. And there is no one way to define a relationship or generalize them. Every relationship is unique in its own way. Everything comes down to the partners, their compatibility, their understanding, and their ways of perception of different situations. A lot depends on understanding as well.
But like every other aspect of our life, relationships have also fallen victim to modernization. Success and career have taken precedence over relation and feelings in most cases. Resultant has put partners in different cities, different countries, even in different time zones in a lot of cases. No, it is not a bad thing. But a long-distance relationship requires its fair share of coping up as well. Few manage it as if it’s a piece of cake and few struggle to come to terms with the whole process of change.
Being in a long-distance relationship is like two sides of coins. On one hand, it can strengthen the relationship and contribute to building trust between the partners. On the other, it may potentially make you so independent that you stop relating to the idea of staying together. A relation demands your attention, your efforts, and your time. A long-distance relation demands all those but in added quantity. In a few instances, it may become tedious and mentally taxing to come to terms with the facts and reality of the long-distance relationship. But there is nothing your loved one cannot take care of. Be it a Monday when you are feeling blue or a weekend when you are running short of someone to go out on a brunch with. A call, a “good morning” message, or a video call can go a long way in helping each other come to terms with the change. Just like a lot of instances where a long-distance relationship is cited as a reason for the breakup, there are just as many instances where long-distance relation has been the reason for increasing love and trust between partners. It is safe to say that the majority of problems can be worked out by staying transparent with each other, communicating about every little issue, and giving the occasional space to each other, when required.
But no matter how much you try, how much you give your best, there are times when things seem to start going south. And as the famous saying goes, when you do not know what to do, just smile through the confusion and believe that whatever happens, happens for a reason. Yes, it hurts, it might seem like the whole process is taking a part of you with itself as it goes away. But, this is also creating an opportunity to build a part of you from the scratch; you can build it the way you want. You get to discover a new side of yourself altogether. It is not easy to go through this alone. At times, people need help accepting the most normal things in life. A lot of people suffer from mental health complications trying to adjust to the changes. Nevertheless, there is always help available in case someone needs them. Because the world of counseling has upgraded itself to match the terms and conditions of long-distance relationships. There is couples counseling available that has helped a lot of couples connect back and find love again. So, do not hesitate to seek help if you find yourself stuck and want to move ahead, because your one act of seeking help can save you from the mental turmoil that you don’t deserve to go through.
