Hello all, Hope you all are fine and staying safe.
In this blog, I want to talk about Mental Health. In our country, we have all kinds of conversations. We talk about so many things, yet the majority of you will agree that we find it difficult to talk about mental health concerns.
I understand that sometimes we aren't really aware of what is happening in our body. We just tend to ignore overthinking, stress, anxiety and other disorders, not realising that they might be pointing towards a mental health concern. The obscurity about awareness results in things we never imagine, the most common is losing interest in what we do, getting angry and frustrated frequently, insomnia and the like. Let's talk about mental health.
Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps us to determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. It basically means keeping your mind healthy, like we keep our body healthy and fit. We visit doctors if we feel physically ill, but, if I ask you to visit a professional for mental health when you are feeling low or disturbed, or let's say you need to discuss your issues with someone, a majority of you won’t agree at first. We can say that this is an impact of the stigma surrounding mental health.
Holding a stigma against mental health means having a negative image towards those who are mentally ill, in our minds.
Public stigma is the reaction that the general population has to people with mental illness. Self-stigma is the prejudice in which people with mental illness turn against themselves. The first step we can take to avoid and kill this stigma is by accepting what we have, by understanding that mental health concerns need treatment too and it is completely okay to seek therapy for the same. By accepting who you are, you become a better person. That is why I am writing this blog- to create awareness about being open about your mental health. We should never feel alone, this illness has happened to many people, be it celebrities, sportspeople, etc. The more we talk about it, the more we create awareness about mental health which results in more people seeking help!
Nowadays, you can get an online consultation, too. One of the platforms is themoodspace.com. They provide initial consultations after which you would be matched to a therapist as per your needs.
